Cleaner air at home — indoor air quality solutions for LA.

LA outdoor air gets a lot of attention, but indoor air can be 2–5× more polluted than outdoor air. We install the right combination of filtration, purification, humidity control, and ventilation — matched to your home, your system, and your concerns.

Indoor air quality in Los Angeles — the full picture

"Indoor air quality" covers several distinct issues, and the right solution depends on which pollutants you're dealing with. HVAC in LA starts with a discussion about symptoms and concerns, then recommends targeted solutions — not a one-size-fits-all upsell.

  • Particles (dust, pollen, dander, PM2.5) — better filtration (MERV-13+, HEPA) or whole-home air purifiers
  • VOCs and odors (paint, cleaning products, off-gassing) — activated carbon filtration or fresh-air ventilation
  • Biological contaminants (mold, bacteria, viruses) — UV-C germicidal systems installed in the air handler
  • Low humidity (dry air, static, cracking wood) — whole-home humidifier connected to your HVAC
  • High humidity (mold, mildew, musty smells) — whole-home dehumidifier or ERV

We install all major IAQ brands: Aprilaire, Honeywell, RGF Guardian, IQAir, Lennox PureAir, and others.

How it works

Our Indoor Air Quality process

What to expect from first call to final commissioning.

1

IAQ consultation

We ask about symptoms, allergies, occupant concerns, and home characteristics before recommending anything.

2

Air quality assessment

For complex situations, we can measure CO₂, VOC, humidity, and PM2.5 levels to establish a baseline.

3

Targeted installation

Right-sized solution installed in or alongside your existing HVAC system. Most IAQ upgrades take 2–4 hours.

4

Filter and maintenance plan

We set you up with the right maintenance schedule so IAQ solutions continue working as designed.

Rebates & incentives

Every rebate dollar, handled for you

HVAC in LA files the paperwork for every program you qualify for. Most projects stack at least two of these.

Indoor Air Quality FAQs

Do I need an air purifier if I have good filters?
Good filtration (MERV-13 or higher) handles particles well. Air purifiers add protection against biologicals, VOCs, and sub-micron particles that filters miss. The right combination depends on your specific concerns.
Will a UV light actually help?
Yes, when installed correctly in the air handler near the coil. UV-C disrupts the DNA of bacteria, viruses and mold on the coil surface — it's not a gimmick, it's standard infection-control technology. It doesn't help with particles.
What humidity level is ideal for an LA home?
40–50% relative humidity is the ideal range for human health and comfort. LA homes often drop to 20–25% in winter, which causes dry throat, cracked wood, and static. A whole-home humidifier solves it permanently.
Can I improve IAQ without buying new equipment?
Often yes. Upgrading to a MERV-13 filter, sealing return air leaks, and increasing ventilation can meaningfully improve air quality with no new equipment.
