Air filtration installation in Los Angeles

The air filter in your HVAC system is the front line against airborne particles: dust, pollen, pet dander, mold spores, and fine particulate matter (PM2.5). A standard 1-inch fiberglass filter captures large particles. A properly sized MERV-13 or media filter captures much more — without restricting airflow when installed correctly.

HVAC in LA installs whole-home filtration upgrades that fit your existing HVAC system: high-MERV pleated filters, 4–5 inch media filters (Aprilaire, Honeywell, Lennox), and HEPA bypass filtration systems. We check static pressure before and after to confirm the upgrade doesn't restrict your system's airflow.

Filtration options we install

  • MERV-13 pleated filters — drop-in upgrade, captures PM2.5 and most allergens. Best for standard 1-inch filter slots.
  • 4–5 inch media filters — 8–12 month service interval, MERV-11 to MERV-16 options, whole-house coverage with minimal static pressure impact.
  • HEPA bypass system — hospital-grade 99.97% filtration. Installed in a bypass loop alongside the main air handler.
  • Electronic air cleaners — electrostatic precipitation for sub-micron particles. Lower static pressure than HEPA.

Air Filtration Systems FAQs

What MERV rating should I use?
MERV-13 captures 90%+ of particles 1–3 microns (allergens, most PM2.5) and is effective for most homes. Higher MERV ratings add more resistance — only use MERV-14 to MERV-16 with a media filter cabinet, not a 1-inch slot.
Will a better filter hurt my HVAC system?
A filter with too high a MERV rating for your system will restrict airflow, reducing efficiency and potentially causing equipment failure. We measure static pressure at your air handler before recommending an upgrade.
How often do media filters need changing?
4–5 inch media filters typically last 9–12 months in most LA homes. Standard 1-inch filters need replacement every 1–3 months depending on household conditions.
Can filtration help with wildfire smoke?
Yes. MERV-13 and higher filters capture the fine particulate matter in smoke. For prolonged smoke events, a portable HEPA air purifier in key rooms provides additional protection.
