Mini-Split Maintenance · Los Angeles & Ventura County

Annual mini-split maintenance to keep your system at peak.

Mini-split systems require less maintenance than ducted systems, but they do require it. Annual cleaning of filters, coils, and drain lines prevents the most common failures and keeps your system running at rated efficiency.

Mini-split maintenance in Los Angeles — what gets dirty and why it matters

The indoor heads of a mini-split are recirculating room air constantly. Over time, filters cake with dust, the evaporator coil accumulates biofilm, and the drain line collects mold. The result: reduced airflow, musty odors, ice on the coil, and eventually a fault shutdown. HVAC in LA provides a full deep-clean service that restores factory performance.

Our maintenance visits cover all heads in multi-zone systems, not just the primary unit.

What's included in mini-split maintenance

  • Filter wash and dry — reusable filters cleaned and reinstalled
  • Evaporator coil cleaning — foaming coil cleaner and flush
  • Blower wheel cleaning — where mold accumulates in humid climates
  • Drain pan and line flush — prevents water leaks and musty odors
  • Refrigerant pressure check — confirm proper charge
  • Outdoor unit inspection — coil, fan, refrigerant connections
  • Control and communication test — confirm all zones respond correctly
How it works

Our Mini-Split Maintenance process

What to expect from first call to final commissioning.

1

Schedule annual service

Best before summer or before winter. Multi-zone systems need about 30 minutes per head.

2

Deep clean each head

Filter, coil, blower wheel and drain for every indoor unit. We protect the wall and floor during service.

3

Outdoor unit check

Inspect refrigerant circuit, fan, coil condition, and electrical connections at the outdoor unit.

4

System test and report

Confirm correct operation of all zones. Provide written service record for warranty purposes.

Rebates & incentives

Every rebate dollar, handled for you

HVAC in LA files the paperwork for every program you qualify for. Most projects stack at least two of these.

Mini-Split Maintenance FAQs

How often should I service a mini-split in LA?
Once a year for most systems. In coastal areas (marine layer, salt air) or homes with pets, twice yearly keeps efficiency and air quality higher.
Can I clean the filters myself?
Yes — the front filters should be rinsed monthly. What you can't reach is the evaporator coil and blower wheel behind the filters, which need annual professional cleaning.
My mini-split smells musty — is that normal?
No. A musty smell means biofilm or mold has built up on the evaporator coil or blower wheel. It's the most common result of skipped maintenance and goes away completely after a deep clean.
Do you service all heads in a multi-zone system?
Yes. We price by the number of indoor heads — all heads are serviced in a single visit.
